About Hillsborough Title

Hillsborough Title is a local full-service title agency in the Tampa Bay area. Hillsborough Title was founded by Gail Calhoun in 1984. HT started as a one office operation in Plant City, Florida, on the second floor of the Sunshine State Federal Savings & Loan building, for those of you familiar with Plant City. Gail had started her career in banking at the former Hillsboro Bank located on Collins Street in Downtown Plant City (now the Law Offices of Trinkle, Redman, Swanson, Coton, Smith and Davis) and the Federal Land Bank of Columbia. From learning the ropes in both of these banks, she soon found herself in the real estate department where she learned the closing process. Soon, she was hired by Mid-State Title as their closer and office manager.

Gail was born with the spirit of an entrepreneur, so it wasn’t long before she saw the opportunity to go into business for herself. In late 1984, she established Hillsborough Title, and soon became the choice for closing services and title insurance in East Hillsborough county. In 1992, her oldest son, Aaron found himself working in the business as the company courier, processing, post closing, then worked his way up the chain. Aaron found time to also get his education, attending Hillsborough Community College part-time while working at Hillsborough Title, and in 1997 left to attend the University of Florida. In 1999 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Major in Finance. After a few years working in the financial services industry under an independent Registered Investment Advisor in South Tampa, soon he was presented with a choice, continue down the current path, or come back to run the family business. He chose the latter, and the rest as they say, is history.

Today Hillsborough Title is the leader in closing services in the Tampa Bay area. Under Aaron’s leadership and Gail’s vast knowledge of the field, Hillsborough Title has become the gold standard for title agencies.
